Charles Beasley, Class of 1956

Charles came from Somerset, Kentucky to SJC to play center for the Trojans basketball team. The Trojans won only 5 games in Beasley’s freshman year, due to an inexperienced squad made mostly of freshman. The next season the Trojans only lost 5 games. Beasley averaged 17 points per game as a freshman and sophomore at SJC.

Charles Beasley went on to play basketball for the University of Southern Mississippi and was a letterman of the “M” Club. He earned a Masters Degree in 1959.

Upon completion of graduate work at USM, Beasley was Head Basketball Coach at William Byrd High School and Recreation Director for the town of Vinton, VA, for three years. Beasley entered a Management Training Program with Southern Railway System in Washington, DC, in June of 1962 and was assigned to Knoxville, TN., as a Commercial Agent. Beasley was promoted to District Sales Manager and retired in 1993 as National Account Manager for Norfolk Southern Corporation.
