Bobby Ray Rucker, Class of 1956

While at Sunflower Junior College Rucker letter both years as a forward. He was also a two year member of the ā€œSā€ Club. Rucker was a high school standout in Hatton, AL., where he finished his senior year with 581 points, averaging 23.8 points per game, and was All District his junior year and senior years and First Team All State his senior year.

Bobby Rucker went on to Louisiana College where he lettered two years in basketball and two years in baseball, leading the team in hitting both years.

After graduation, Rucker coached three years in Virginia before moving to Pineville, Louisiana. There he coached junior high school for four years then moved up to head coach where he would spend the next 22 years building a basketball dynasty. During that time he also earned a Masters of Education Degree.

From 1966 to 1988 his teams averaged more than 20 wins a year and notched a total of 448 victories, the second most varsity wins in Louisiana history. During that time, his teams were district champions or co-champions six times, runner-up three times, and state runner-up twice. He was named District Coach of the Year nine times, AA State Coach of the Year once, and West All-Star Coach once.

In 1995 Rucker was inducted into the Lawrence County, AL., Sports Hall of Fame. Following his coaching career, he served as Assistant Principal at Pineville High until his retirement in 1994.
