Billy Parker, Class of 1948

Parker played for the Trojans basketball team from 1946 to 1948 and was named Honorable Mention All-State as a forward his second year at Sunflower Junior College. He freshman year the Trojans went 15-3 and boasted the second best record in the state but were upset by Pearl River in the semi-finals of the State Tournament.

Billy Parker earned a full scholarship at the University of Mississippi, but after his first year his career was interrupted by military duty during the Korean War. His final stint with basketball was a season with the team at Camp Stewart, GA., Army base.

After returning from the Army, he completed his degree in Accountancy at Ole Miss but did not return to the basketball court.

After graduation Parker worked for the Calhoun County Superintendent of Education’s office for two years and then was employed by the Mississippi Department of Education in 1956 to start an audit program for Child Nutrition Program. He remained at this job for the next 27 years becoming Auditor, Supervisor of Food Distribution, and Fiscal Officer until 1983 when he retired.
