MDCC baseball fighting through weather

The Mississippi Delta Community College baseball program currently sits at 6-4 overall after battling with Mother Nature for most of the early part of the 2018 campaign.

The Trojans recently won one game and lost the other in a split doubleheader with Enterprise (Ala.) Community College and East Central Community College, respectively, on Saturday in Decatur. MDCC beat Enterprise in walk-off fashion in the nightcap, 4-3, after falling in the opener to EC, 8-4.

Carson Forrester (Columbus) earned the win on the mound in game two after going all seven innings and allowing only three runs to cross the plate. Tyler Jones (Columbus) scored the game-winning run on a passed ball, and Markarius Lee (Nesbit) was the offensive leader after collecting two hits.

In Saturday’s opener versus the home standing Warriors of East Central, it was Jones who led the way offensively, as the sophomore infielder/outfielder had three hits for MDCC. His offensive output alone was not enough to get Korey Bell (Brentwood, Tenn.) the victory on the mound, however, despite the redshirt freshman going seven innings and allowing only two earned runs to cross. Bell picked up the no-decision on the hill, while Trey Jones (Olive Branch) took the loss.

Mississippi Delta was scheduled to play on the road at Bevill State (Ala.) Community College on Tuesday, but the games were rained out, so the Trojans are still on the lookout for possible games on Thursday.

Regardless of if MDCC plays on Thursday or not, the Trojans will play another split doubleheader on Friday in Senatobia against Coahoma Community College at 11 a.m. and Northwest Community College at 2 p.m.
