|Steve Burgess, Class of 1975

Burgess quarterbacked the Trojans football team to an unprecedented back-to-back State Championship season during the 1972 and 1973 seasons. During his freshman and sophomore season the Trojans went 8-2. Steve also played baseball his sophomore year as a pitcher and outfielder. During his sophomore year the Trojans captured a North Title. Burgess also found time to run track and pole vault for the track team during his sophomore year. Steve Burgess was awarded the Stonestreet Award which is the highest accolade given to a male athlete.
Burgess continued his education at Mississippi State University where he earned a B.S. in Forestry.
Steve Burgess took a job with the Mississippi Forestry Commission and was stationed in Leflore County. He returned to MDCJ in 1977 and was the county forester who oversaw the reforestation of the MDJC campus helping plant 55 acres.
Burgees married Miss MDJC the former Linda Turner of Greenville.
