MOORHEAD, Miss. (July 15, 2021) – Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) held its Law Enforcement Training Academy (LETA) Commencement on Thursday, July 15, 2021, in J.T. Hall Coliseum on the Moorhead campus. During the ceremony, the 38 cadets of Class 21-B68 became full-fledged law enforcement officers. 

The event began with the posting of the colors by Dustin Black, Wilmer Diaz and Bridget Leheny, who were all representing Lafayette Co. Sheriff’s Office (S.O.). After the graduates marched in, Dean of Student Services Derrick Fields gave the invocation.

LETA Director Amy Vanderford led in the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by Tykeria Harris of the Columbus Police Department (P.D.) and Darryl Rogers of Philadelphia P.D. singing the national anthem.

MDCC President Dr. Tyrone Jackson, as well as Vanderford, then gave a welcome before Fields came back to the podium to distribute special recognitions and awards. Fields was joined by Tim Presley, LETA coordinator, and John Williams of Warren Co. S. O. Williams also served as platoon leader of Class 21-B68.

Randy Denley of Grenada Co. S.O. then led the class response portion of the ceremony. Following the presentation of certificates, Presley led the graduates in the Oath of Honor, and Fields gave the benediction.

The MDCC Law Enforcement Training Academy is a Class I State Accredited Academy by the Mississippi Board on Law Enforcement Officers’ Standards and Training and offers all levels of training to law enforcement personnel throughout the Delta Region and the State of Mississippi. The MDCC LETA provides areas of training for basic, refresher, part-time, corrections officer, in-service and advanced training on the MDCC main campus located on Highway 3, in Moorhead, Miss.
