Practical Nursing Class of 2025 Graduates Twenty-Six
MOORHEAD, Miss. (July 9, 2025) – Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) held its
2025 Practical Nursing (PN) Pinning and Graduation Ceremony on Tuesday, July 8, in
the J.T. Hall Coliseum.
Twenty-six students participated in the ceremony. PN student Linsey Ortiz provided
the invocation, with MDCC Vice President of Instruction and Accreditation/Provost
Dr. Valarie Morgan giving the welcome.
The commencement address was given by Christi Huff, LPN, Community Outreach Coordinator/Marketing
at the Tyler Holmes Hospital. Huff was introduced by Dean of Health Sciences Dr. Patricia
Kelly.
Following the commencement address, Dr. Valarie Morgan presented the candidates for
the conferral of their certificates. PN Instructor Bettinica Cobbs then led the students
in the lighting of the Nightingale Lamps before PN student Jeremy Carter led the new
graduates in the Practical Nurse’s Pledge.
PN Instructor Deshundra Meeks had the honor of officially presenting the graduates
before they were pinned by PN Chair and Assistant Director of Nursing Veronica Caradine.
The benediction was given by PN student Jasmine Holmes.
The Practical Nursing program prepares nurses at the basic level of entry for nursing
practice. The curriculum is designed to prepare graduates to practice safe, effective
nursing and function as team members.
A licensed practical nurse means that a person has graduated from an approved nursing
program, passed the appropriate examinations, and is licensed by the state. The nurse
practices within the legal and ethical framework established by the Mississippi Board
of Nursing as determined by the Mississippi Nursing Practice Law and Administrative
Code.
