Year One Strategic Plan: Strong Momentum and Big Wins Across Four Key Initiatives

In the first year of MDCC’s new strategic plan, Rooted in the Delta, Reaching for Success, teams across the college have made progress toward creating a more supportive, engaging, and connected experience for students and the broader community. Four major initiatives—Accessibility, Campus Climate, Community Relations, and Student Success—are already showing positive early results.

Accessibility

Focused on improving onboarding, programs, scheduling, and student support, this initiative saw early traction. A new Program Review Board delivered its first recommendations, the onboarding feedback survey provided actionable insights, and industry tours helped strengthen program alignment. Next up: boosting student support services and sharpening student‑facing messaging.

Campus Climate

To strengthen belonging, participation, empowerment, and data governance, the team launched the Trojan Experience Council and enhanced student withdrawal surveys and processes. Upcoming opportunities include working with a crime prevention team and improving attendance recording to better support student and employee participation.

Community Relations

With an emphasis on alumni engagement, partnerships, media, safety events, and new course collaborations, this initiative addresses multiple facets of community life. The team compiled 127 partner prospects and rolled out a new engagement toolkit. Looking ahead, priorities include recruiting alumni, planning new events, and expanding content creation to elevate visibility.

Student Success

Designed to strengthen first‑year and bridge programming, tutoring, and mental wellness, this initiative moved forward with proposals for a full First‑Year Program and a pilot Bridge Program, while researching tutoring frameworks. Next steps include launching help sessions and improving service‑use tracking so students get support exactly when they need it.
