MDCC Celebrates Workforce Program Graduates at Capps Center Ceremony

MOORHEAD, Miss. (May 6, 2026) – Mississippi Delta Community College recognized graduates
from its workforce training programs during the Capps Center Graduation Ceremony on
Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at 10 a.m. in the J.T. Hall Coliseum on the Moorhead campus.
The ceremony honored students who completed workforce training programs designed to
prepare graduates for immediate entry into high-demand careers across the Mississippi
Delta and beyond.
Douglas Freeze, vice president of workforce and economic development, welcomed graduates
and guests. Josh Warren, director of the MDCC Baptist Student Union, provided the
invocation.
Dexture Applewhite, workforce development coordinator, introduced guest speaker Levell
Hawkins, airport director of Greenville Mid-Delta Airport, who delivered the commencement
address.
During the ceremony, coordinators and instructors presented awards and recognized
graduates from the following workforce programs: Medical Administrative Assistant,
Pharmacy Technician, Electrical Utility Lineman, Carpentry, Commercial Electrical,
Emergency Medical Technician, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning, Commercial
Truck Driving, Welding, Fiber Optic Construction and Aviation Maintenance Technician.
A total of more than 140 students completed workforce training programs this spring,
earning credentials that prepare them to enter industries critical to the region’s
workforce needs, including healthcare, transportation, construction, utilities, aviation
and skilled trades.
MDCC’s workforce programs are designed to provide students with accessible pathways
to career advancement through short-term training opportunities, industry certifications
and workforce partnerships that meet regional employment demands.
As Mississippi Delta Community College celebrates 100 years of service in 2026, the
college continues to expand workforce training opportunities that strengthen communities
and create economic mobility throughout the Delta.
