MOORHEAD, Miss. (July 12, 2021) – Mississippi Delta Community College (MDCC) President Dr. Tyrone Jackson’s service at the college will continue for at least four more years after a successful initial two years of leadership led to his contract being extended.

Jackson began his service at MDCC on July 1, 2019, and that initial contract had an expiration date of June 30, 2023. However, it is typical for an extension to be requested during a president’s third year. That request was approved with enthusiasm from the MDCC Board of Trustees, which will see the current president continue his role until at least June 30, 2025.

During Jackson’s first two years of service at MDCC, he has overseen many successful projects, including the soon-to-be-completed renovation of the Stauffer-Wood Administration Building and the new MDCC Bookstore, as well as successfully guiding the college through a once-in-a-century pandemic.

Jackson is excited about the opportunity to continue to serve MDCC and to push the college to further prosperity.

“I am elated that the Board of Trustees has afforded me an extension on my service contract. Despite the unimaginable, challenging times over the last year, the MDCC team and I rose to the occasion and were able to succeed in a number of initiatives, including a significant increase in enrollment during my first fall semester, successfully completing major tasks coupled with starting several renovation projects along with a list of other accomplishments,” said Jackson.

Jackson reiterated that the success that MDCC has seen over the past two years could be attributed to not just him but the faculty and staff of the college. He added that every decision has been and will continue to be student-centered for the achievement of their professional and personal goals.

“Having the opportunity to come back home and lead MDCC is one of the highest honors ever bestowed upon me. The best is yet to come!” he concluded.
