MDCC Dedicates Centennial Time Capsule as Part of 100th Anniversary Celebration

MOORHEAD, Miss. (Sept. 3, 2026) — Mississippi Delta Community College marked another milestone in its Centennial celebration Thursday with the dedication of a time capsule commemorating the college’s 100th anniversary.

The Centennial Time Capsule Ceremony was held at 11 a.m. on the Moorhead campus Quad as part of MDCC’s calendar of Centennial events.

The time capsule project and ceremony were spearheaded by Dr. Sharelle Grim, chair of the Social Sciences Department and history instructor. Grim invited MDCC employees to contribute small items representing the college and its community to be preserved in the capsule for future generations.

Items placed in the time capsule include a letter from MDCC President Dr. Steven Jones, college and athletics memorabilia, and handwritten memories from faculty, staff and students, among other items.

Students in MDCC’s Construction Equipment Operation program, under the direction of instructor Emmanuel Williams, also played a role in the project by preparing the site where the time capsule will be buried.

The ceremony included an invocation by BSU Director Josh Warren; a welcome and closing remarks from MDCC President Dr. Steven Jones; remarks on the occasion from Athletic Director Tangela Banks; and a history and reflection presented by Grim. A reception followed the ceremony.

The time capsule serves as a lasting connection between the MDCC community of today and future generations as the college celebrates A Century of Excellence and reflects on its first 100 years while looking ahead to the next century.
