Residence Hall Packing Guide

Things to Bring

Bedding & Bath

  • Pillow(s)
  • Extra-long twin sheets (39” x 80”)
  • Blanket and/or comforter
  • Mattress topper or pad
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Shower caddy/tote
  • Shower shoes/slippers
  • Hair dryer
  • Bathrobe
  • Toiletries
  • Toilet paper

Cleaning Supplies

All students are responsible for cleaning their own room and bathroom spaces. Students living in halls with private bathrooms are responsible for cleaning their own bathrooms in addition to their rooms.

Recommended cleaning items:

  • Disinfectant wipes/spray
  • Toilet bowl cleaner
  • Bathroom cleaner
  • Mop and broom
  • Dustpan
  • Hand vacuum or small vacuum cleaner
  • Trash can and trash bags
  • Paper towels and tissues
  • Laundry detergent
  • Laundry basket or bag

A vacuum cleaner, broom, dustpan, and other cleaning supplies may also be available for checkout at the residence hall front desk.

Electronics & Technology

  • Computer/laptop
  • Printer
  • Alarm clock
  • Portable fan
  • Desk lamp
  • Flashlight and batteries
  • TV with co-axial cable
  • Stereo or speaker
  • Necessary charging cords and adapters
  • Surge protector/power strip

Kitchen & Food Items

Refrigerator Size Guide

  • Refrigerator (one per room, no larger than 4.5 cubic feet)
  • Microwave (1000 watts or less; one per room)
  • Microwavable containers
  • Kitchenware and utensils
  • Personal cooking appliances with auto shut-off features under 1000 watts
  • Snacks and drinks

Laundry & Clothing

  • Clothes hangers
  • Iron and small ironing board
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Umbrella or raincoat

School & Personal Items

  • Backpack
  • Planner or calendar
  • School supplies
  • Student ID
  • Driver’s license or passport
  • Insurance card
  • Debit/credit card
  • Copies of prescriptions in original containers
  • First aid kit
  • Photos, posters, and room decorations
  • Command hooks/strips or removable adhesive products
  • Under-bed or closet storage containers

Important Reminder

Students are expected to maintain a clean and safe living environment throughout the academic year. Keeping your room and bathroom clean helps create a healthy and respectful residential community for everyone.

  • Personally owned air conditioners
  • Washers and dryers
  • Dishwashers
  • Extra refrigerators/freezers
  • Space heaters
  • Extension cords
  • Open-coil appliances:
    • Toasters
    • Toaster ovens
    • Hot plates
    • Electric grills with exposed coils
  • Air fryers or deep fryers
  • Air fryer microwaves
  • Halogen lamps/lights
  • Rope lights, party lights, twinkle lights, or non-LED string lights
  • Heated blankets with on/off switches

Puppies Not Allowed

Prohibited Items

  • Firearms, ammunition, or weapons
  • Fireworks or explosives
  • Flammable liquids (gasoline, propane, kerosene, etc.)
  • Alcohol (including empty containers)
  • Illegal drugs or drug paraphernalia
  • Vapes, Juuls, and related devices
  • Candles or incense
  • Darts or dart boards
  • Paintball guns or air rifles

Transportation & Recreational Items

  • Hoverboards and chargers
  • Mopeds
  • Motorcycles inside residence halls
  • Electric bikes
  • Scooters (including electric scooters)
  • Skateboards
  • One-wheels
